Grey Cold Rain

I’m liking the idea of white outerwear for being visible but not flashy, particularly paired with black. It might be even better in the summer when the world is more green, less grey…
In this photo you can see the challenge of twin cities on a river: who is responsible for the bridges? I don’t know, but I do know that the sidewalks on the Longfellow Bridge are not shoveled until at least 2 weeks after any major snowfall. Seems the street cleaners don’t pass too often in the bike lanes either.

In a nutshell, there is a problem with snow clearance on this bridge because it is is operated by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, whose main responsibility is parklands and which is continually strapped for cash. The DCR is accountable to the citizenry of the entire Commonwealth — and as most citizens don’t live in Boston or Cambridge. they have neither the desire to fund the DCR adequately nor the mechanism to effect change through local elections.
The DCR does have a plan underway to reconstruct the bridges, many of which are in a deteriorated and dangerous condition. Snow removal is a different, though important issue. Governor Patrick’s reorganization plan which would turn the DCR bridges over to a consolidated transportation agency may help improve this situation.
